I'm running a Window10 desktop PC with a 128GB SSD as my boot drive (C:\) and a 1TB HDD as a data drive (D:\). Before I started the process described below, there was about 65 GB free on both drives.
Two months ago, I had a problem with most of my photos not connecting to their respective tags (Some photos and all tags missing), and I was advised to restore the catalog from a backup. I had to put that project aside for a while due to other commitments. Earlier this week I backed up all my photos to an external drive (copying just the files, not using PSE 13), then deleted them from the data drive. The idea was to make a fresh start and restore from what I believe to be a good PSE 13 backup. I restored my PSE 13 catalog from another external drive, specifying the restore to be done to D:\Pictures.
Once the restore was done, PSE 13 seemed to be chewing on the data, with the activity icon (or whatever it's called--the spinning wheel in the lower left of the window) spinning continuously. For about two days. I left the computer on and unused so the process could complete.
When I returned to the PC, there was a warning showing on one (I have three) monitor--not in a PSE 13 window--saying that I had very little space left on the C: drive. In fact, I had about 182 MB. Even though I had told PSE 13 to restore to the "Pictures" folder on the D: drive, a bunch of stuff had been placed on C:.
Using WinDirStat, I located the culprit. In the folder C:\Users\Tim\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common\Media Cache Files, there were 57.2 GB of mostly *.cfa files, all or nearly all of them associated with old projects in Premiere Elements 13. I have now deleted these in the interest of keeping my computer working.
I'm assuming I will have to do the restore all over again. What I want to know is: how do I get all the data/picture/video files on D:, and keep the data from being directed to C:\?
