I did check the permissions, and found no issue running the disk utility. Granted, this is a non-booting data drive, but will check boot disk as well.
I opened the drive permissions for "everyone" to no-access. Also for simplicity, I am using my login credentials for the connected machines.
Anyway, I did a process of elimination, (other files including AI, PS as well as Office 2010 junk) and did not run into the read-only issues. Was able to save over the top of all except for ID files. Seems pretty specific to the ID file type.
Just a note, this drive has been shared right under 2 years without this issue.
