You have the latest Nvidia device driver install in your laptop I see and 8GB of Ram.
You wrote you tried replaceing the object with the original and that also failed. Have you tried placeing in a new smart object layer with the original object. If that works perhaps you will be able to copy any layer mask smart filters etc from the layer the fails to update or be replaced..
